I have a lot of work to do, but this is what I've done so far. I'm trying to do more with the pen tool and less with live trace. I'm also still working on the transition from the sewing machine to the spider. I'm probably going to add bolts and screws to the joints of the spider to make it look more mechanical, and machine like. We'll see what happens. Any suggestions would be rad!
I defiantly think adding the spider up top was a good move, maybe adding more spiders peaking out from underneath it? (lol because of the bobin) and It might add more interest in the lower part of the piece.
ReplyDeleteI like the changes you made. With the overly detailed sewing machine, the spiders were getting lost in the piece. This simple sewing machine makes them stand out more. I think you should play around with possibly more spiders and the positioning. There's a lot of room for that.
ReplyDeleteI love this change. I think this is working so much better than before. I would say to maybe add some dark darks instead of this uniform grey.
ReplyDeleteI love that you added the spider at the top. I think it makes it look a lot more like the spider is part of the machine, rather than just sitting on top. You might add some more value, just to give a little more depth to the machine, but not too much because you don't want to lose the spiders. I love the idea of making the spiders look more mechanical. Great job, I think it'll turn out really well!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree with what everyone's saying. The changes you've made giving it a more simple feel has made me like this piece a lot more. I also really love where you placed the spiders
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the values in the sewing machine were removed! The lighter line quality is more interesting to me because it suggests the overall shape without being too dramatic. I'm not sure how far you were going to push it, because I like where it is now. But, I had a suggestion. Maybe there could be a spider sewing a piece of fabric, or even sewing a spiderweb together.
ReplyDeleteDon't really know what to add to what you already said you were planning on doing, sounds like you've got it planned out pretty well. I like the idea of making the spider look more mechanical, definitely. Can't wait to see the finished piece!
ReplyDeleteI really like the light lines you used here, I think it was a great change from the more detailed rendering you had before. I agree with what everyone else has been saying, more spiders, adding fabric, maybe even adding some spiderwebs/cobwebs on the sewing machine itself. I think that adding some value would help to clarify the form of the sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteExited to see where you go with this!
The change is great. If you want to add some values, you can do that easily(ish) with the blob tool on the layer below the line, in a similar way you would do with a raster program.
ReplyDeleteYou can play with the name of the sewing machine as well. Making a pun of out the name (that is something that your eyes are being drawn to) would force the viewer to look for the spiders.
Good to switch it up. I'm ready to see the turn out! I'm thinking you could add a spider on the back spinning web like its feeding it through the sewing machine?
ReplyDeletelooking really good. Would be cool to see a piece of fabric under neath the sewing machine so it looks like they working on something. Maybe have the spiders feet pushing it through the fabric also. This would a be a lot of worker but making the sewing machine look like a large web and have the spider at the bottom sticking a bug on to the fabric would be cool. That how they kill their prey.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the quality of line you are getting here. Maybe a spider web could happen all over the piece to make the viewer aware of the spiders as they have been de-emphasized with their small scale. Don't be afraid to keep it loose in the style tho, i like the hand generated look very much. Maybe lots of more spiders to strengthen the concept - they are working together on something?
